Friday Sketchdump #12

Happy new year everyone!

banded palm civet mascot character for the ni-limits mascot contest
This was a Mascot I made for a contest of the Ni-Limits company. Apparently I was the only one who submitted a valid entry, so they made a new deadline in 7 months.

a pose from a tex avery cartoon
"What the hell?" - pose from a Tex Avery Short

a pose inspired by tex avery cartoons
Practice on Line of Action, anatomy is wrong but at least the pose looks not that bad imho.

exaggerated cartoon expression
More tries on exaggeration.. this is not really convincing though.

banded palm civet sketch
A sketch I did while brainstorming for the Mascot contest. He's now welcoming visitors here.

Thylacine doodle, colored by a friend
A Thylacine sketch from an openCanvas Session, colored by a friend. She did a nice job on the outlines and coloring, and I did a poor on the sketch ;)

Friday Sketchdump #7

Another stressful week is over, and once again I didn't draw very much (and the stuff I drew is very sloppy). But still enough to make a sketchdump of course!

Brer Rabbit
My first attempt to draw Brer Rabbit. Thanks again for the model sheets, Henrieke!
He's a great character, and it's a shame that he never appears in german Disney Magazines

Ferret Sketch
A very rough ferret sketch

Otter
Otter. I like how this one came out, even though the pose is anything but original.

Ermine
An Ermine. The black tip is missing, though.

Thylacines

Thylacine
Thylacine

I just finished reading this scientific report about Thylacines, which I actually only got because there were alot of photos and illustrations in there I wanted to use as reference. But now I'm really interrested in Thylacines, so I dedicate a post to them.

Thylacines, also referred to as Tasmanian Tiger or Tasmanian Wolf aren't - as the name would suggest - Canids or Felines. They are actually Marsupials, with the closest still existing relative being the Tasmanian Devil.

I have collected quite much reference pictures and photos of Thylacines for drawing purposes here, but also if you're not trying to draw them you might be interested in them as there are a few rare ones included.

I've drawn alot of Thylacines until now, so here they are (in chronological order, including mostly older artworks):

Thylacine Sketches
Thylacine sketches

Thylacine profile
first try on "realistic" anatomy

Toony Thylacine
A more toony attempt

Toony Thylacine
Also toony, inspired by the mascot of this site

Thylacine with Sandwich
For completeness, I repost this one.

Thylacine sketches
Also this one.

openCanvas Thylacine Sketch
quick Thylacine Sketch in openCanvas

Thylacine made with fineliner
I made this one with a 0.05mm fineliner.. sketch can be seen here

Thylacinus potens, also known as powerful Thylacine
This is a sketch of a Thylacinus potens, using this skeleton as reference. Notice the shorter legs and the smaller head compared to a Thylacinus cynocephalus

Finally, for more information about thylacines, I recommend the following sites:

Friday Sketchdump #5

Okay, this week I drew definately VERY much as this is only a small portion of the sketches I did.
Most of them are very inspired by Tex Avery and John K as I watched alot of their toons recently.

I also have been to a Comic Meeting yesterday, which was awesome! I even met an artist who worked for disney 15 years ago, and he gave me some really useful tips.. and told me my hands suck, but.. yes.. they actually do, but practicing hands is boring. But he explained me how imporant hands are for the whole expression, so I guess I'll end up drawing alot of hands next week. ;)

Some sketches, inspired by Tex Avery and John Kricfalusi
Screwball Squirrel! My first attempt to draw him, yet there are many things that went wrong.

Weird looking Kangaroo
A more abstract Kangaroo in oC.

thirsty Otter

grumpy Fox

John K

Dynamic pose
